AS A JUNIOR (2016-2017): Battling injury most of the season, John nonetheless finished the year strong and was selected to a third-straight ACC Championship team, where he finished as the top BC finisher in both the 100 Fly (49.72, 36th place) and 100 Free (45.69, 43rd place). . .came in sixth in the 50 free (22.05) and the 100 fly (52.91) against BU… at BU’s Terrier Invitational he helped lead BC to victory in the 200 Free Relay team (1:22.70, 21.00 split) and the 200 Medley Relay (130:85, 22.61 fly split).
AS A SOPHOMORE (2015-2016): Selected to compete on BC’s 2016 ACC Championship team, he lowered his school record in 100 butterfly (49.15), swam the butterfly leg of the school- record-breaking 400 Medley Relay (3:18.34, 48.46 split), and swam a 20.18 split in helping to set a third BC team record at the meet in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:20.93)...against Boston University, John won the 100 butterfly with a new BC dual meet record time of 50.83...at that same event, John set the fastest dual meet 50 fly split in program history (22.44).
AS A FRESHMAN (2014-2015): Wrapped up rookie campaign at the ACC Championships, where he set a new BC team record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 49.32....at the ACC Championships he swam on three relays that also set new school records: 200 Freestyle Relay (1:20.96, 20.18 split), 400 Freestyle Relay (2:59.79, 44.33 split), and the 800 Freestyle Relay (6:40.70, 1:40.44 split)...Individually, he also recorded best times in the 100 Freestyle (45.43, 47th place) and 200 Individual Medley (1:49.97, 33rd place)...finished the dual meet season with 11 first place finishes and was the team’s fourth highest point scorer... Co-recipient of the Harold M. Groden, MD Award for Outstanding Performance.
BEFORE BC: USA Swimming Short-Course Nationals Qualifier (100 breaststroke 2014). Attended Walt Whitman High School...lettered all four years...Team Captain in 2014...2014 All-American, 100 freestyle... 2014 Maryland 3A/4A State Champion, 400 freestyle relay...2014 NCSA Junior National finalist, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke...holds his high school’s records in the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 freestyle relay...swam for the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club...holds the RMSC 200 medley relay record.
PERSONAL: John is from Bethesda, Md...he is the son of Donald and Magda Mooers...has two siblings....his brother Stephen swam for Catholic University, and his sister Annie is a junior at Boston University....John is a member of the Bethany (Delaware) Beach Patrol.
