AS A JUNIOR (2018-19): Swam a season best in the 50 Y Back with a time of 25.60 against Marist… placed fifth in the 200 Y Back with a time of 1:55.87 against Boston University… at the Boston Winter Open swam season best 100 Y Fly with a time of 51.05 and the 100 Y Back with a time of 51.63, along with a personal best in the 200 Y Back with a time of 1:50.38
AS A SOPHOMORE (2017-2018): At the ACC Championships, placed 29th in the 200 yd. backstroke (1:50.81), swimming the 7th fastest time in program history, 33rd in the 100 yd. backstroke (51.03), marking the 8th fastest time in program history, 50th in the 200 yd. individual medley (1:53.49), and set a personal best time in the 100 yd. butterfly (50.69)...at the Terrier Invitational, placed 8th in the 200 yd. individual medley (1:54.06), 10th in the 200 yd. backstroke (1:50.88), 20th in the 100 yd. backstroke (52.24), and 20th in the 100 yd. butterfly (51.02)…placed fourth in both the 100 yd. backstroke (52.72) and 200 yd. backstroke (1:54.79) in a the dual meet vs. Boston University ... placed third in both the 50 yd. backstroke (25.57) and 50 yd. butterfly (24.48) vs. Tufts ... placed second in both the 100 yd. backstroke (53.52) and 200 yd. backstroke (1:45.88) in vs. Williams ... placed second in both the 100 yd. backstroke (55.84) and 100 yd. individual medley (56.44) vs. Keene State ... scored a total of 106.5 points his sophomore year.
AS A FRESHMAN (2016-2017): Finished freshman year with lifetime best swims at the ACC Championships in the 200 yard individual medley (1:53.20) and 200 yard backstroke (1:51.32)…took first place in the 100 yard backstroke and second in the 200 yard backstroke at the Husky Invitational…also placed seventh in the 100 yard backstroke and 16th in the 200 yard backstroke at the Terrier Invitational and had a lifetime best swim in the 100 yard butterfly (51.44).
BEFORE BC: Attended Detroit Country Day School…four-year varsity member...Team captain in 2016. All State in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016...State Champion in 2014 in the 100 backstroke…State Record breaker in 2015…holds team records in the 100 backstroke, 200 IM, and 500 freestyle...also holds team records as part of the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay…YMCA National Qualifier 2012-2016...Scholar-Athlete Award in 2016.
PERSONAL: Brendan is from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan…he is the son of Jim and Maureen Gatward...has a brother Ian (26) who graduated from Boston College in 2012 and with his Masters in Political Science in 2015...also has a sister Meghan (22) who graduated from Boston College in 2016...swims for his High School and Club Team, the Birmingham Blue Dolphin.
