AS A SENIOR (2018-19): Swam a personal best in the 50 Y Back with a time of 22.40… personal best in the 200 Y Free with a time of 1:38.95… personal best in the 100 Y Breast with a time of 53.92… personal best in the 50 Y Breast with a time of 25.44… personal best in the 200 Y Breast with a time of 1:57. 42 ... named to the ACC Honor Roll.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2016-2017): Capped his second season at BC as one of the most successful swimmers in school history...at the ACC Championships finished 20th in 200 breaststroke with a inals time of 1:59.42 (Prelims: 1:59.23)...split 1:39.25 in 800 Free Relay on way to new school record of 6:39.44...split 48.73 in 100 Fly in 400 Medley Relay and 45.68 in 100 Free in 400 Free Relay...set six school records over the course of the season, three of which qualified as NCAA B standard times....at Terrier Invitational went 1:47.12 in 200 IM, breaking BC school and BU pool records....end of season honors included: Co-recipient of Harold M. Groden M.D. Award - Outstanding Performance; Co-winner of 2016-2017 BC Most Valuable Performer, CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention.
AS A FRESHMAN (2015-2016): Finished strong Rookie season as key member of ACC Championship squad, setting a BC school record in the 200 backstroke (1:47.56)…at the Terrier Invitational, turned in the fastest ever 400 IM in BC history (3:55.24)… Came in second place in the 100 backstroke (53.00) against Bryant… Took second in the 200 IM (1:54.15) and first in the 400 IM (4:05.52) at the Thomas Murphy Invitational… Dropped almost 3 seconds to claim first place in 200 freestyle (1:41.77) against Williams… Dropped 3 seconds to finish second place in the 200 backstroke (1:52.08) against BU. End of seasons honors included: Co-recipient of the Mary Pawlak Award – Special Recognition; Co-recipient of the Harold M. Groden M.D. Award – Outstanding Performance.
BEFORE BC: 2014 and 2015 All-American... Qualified for Junior Nationals in 200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 backstroke... Southern California Swimming Record Holder. Four-year Varsity Letter-earner at Corona del Mar High School... High Point Scorer in his Senior Year. Club team: Irvine Aquazots.
PERSONAL: From Newport Beach, California. Eldest son of Irene and Jim Cortens. Two brothers, Morgan, a junior at Corona del Mar High School, and Jordan, a 7th grader. Enjoys basketball, golf, fishing and hanging out with friends when not in classroom or pool. Favorite motto: “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.”
