Sean Hard pitches three scoreless innings to secure the win

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College Baseball (21-9, 8-4 ACC) defeated Maine (5-21, 3-3 AE) in a midweek contest, 7-4.

Jacob Burnham started for the Eagles and went 4.1 innings while striking out four and allowing an earned run. Chase Hartsell came on in relief and threw 1.2 innings while striking out three and giving up two earned runs. Sean Hard came on for the final three innings and struck out three without giving up a run.

The Black Bears struck first as their first three batters reached. They were able to get two runs across with back-to-back sacrifice flies before Burnham struck out their sixth batter to end the inning.

The Eagles got one back in the bottom half of the first when Nick Wang drove in Julio Solier from second base to cut it to 2-1.

Boston College would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs, which would make it 3-2. Danny Surowiec and Jace Roossien would lead off the innings with walks and would be advanced to second and third, respectively, when Colin Larson would bunt them over. Julio Solier grounded out to the shortstop, which would allow Surowiec to score. Ty Mainolfi would then launch a single to right field to score Roossien and give the Eagles a lead.

In the top of the seventh, Maine would retake the lead when they put runners on second and third with no outs. They would plate both runs off a sacrifice fly and a single.

Boston College would tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh. A pitch would hit Colin Larson, who would then advance to third on a single by Julio Solier. Larson would then score on a groundout to the first baseman by Mainolfi.

The Eagles would retake the lead in the bottom of the eighth when Jack Toomey led off with a single to right. Luke Gallo would walk to make it first and second for Surowiec, who knocked a single to right, which would score Toomey. Gunnar Johnson would lay down a perfect bunt to score Gallo from third. Solier would then single up the middle to bring in the Eagles' third run of the inning.
