Eagles Travel to North Carolina for Weekend Series

BC set to take on No. Tar Heels
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — No. 22 Boston College Baseball travels to No. 6 North Carolina for a weekend series beginning at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow on ACCNX. The Eagles will also play on April 3 and 4 at 5:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m., with both games streamed on ACCNX.
Record vs North Carolina
Boston College is 7-34 all-time against the Tar Heels with a 3-17 record in Chapel Hill. The Eagles went 1-3 against North Carolina last year, with the final matchup in the ACC tournament, which the Tar Heels won, 7-2. Boston College did defeat North Carolina once during their regular season series at home, 3-2. All three runs for the Eagles that day came on a three-run home run by Patrick Roche. Tyler Mudd started for the Eagles and went 4.1 innings before being replaced by Kyle Kipp, who went 1.2 innings to earn the win. Joey Ryan closed the game out as he earned the save after three innings of work while allowing just one run.
Scouting the Tar Heels
North Carolina is 25-4-1 and this year with a 9-3 conference record. The Tar Heels won their midweek matchup, 5-4 over Campbell in 14 innings, after sweeping then-No. 23 Notre Dame during the weekend. North Carolina is hitting .289 as a team this season, but has four hitters who are batting over .300. Owen Hull leads the way, hitting .349 with a team-high 31 RBI so far this season. Cooper Nicholson leads the Tar Heel offense in home runs with seven, while Hull has the most hits on the team with 38. On the mound, the North Carolina staff has an ERA of 3.45, with six pitchers having sub-3.00 ERAs. The Tar Heels have three pitchers with over 30 innings of work, with Caden Glauber the lowest at 2.05. North Carolina has three pitchers tied for the strikeout lead at 40.
The Matchups
Thursday night will feature A.J. Colarusso against the Tar Heel's Jason DeCaro. Colarusso is 2-1 this season with a 3.37 ERA in 34.2 innings of work with 30 strikeouts. In his last start against Virginia, Colarusso went six innings with six strikeouts while giving up just one unearned run. DeCaro is 5-1 this year with a 2.11 ERA in 38.1 innings of work to go with 36 strikeouts. In his last start against Notre Dame, he went 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs to go with nine strikeouts.
Friday night will see Tyler Mudd face off against Ryan Lynch. Mudd is 2-2 this year in 29 innings with a 4.03 ERA to go with 16 strikeouts. In his last start against Virginia, he went five scoreless innings with one strikeout. Lynch is 2-2 this season in 38.2 innings of work with an ERA of 4.42 to go with 40 strikeouts. His last start against Notre Dame saw him go 4.2 innings while allowing five earned runs, while striking out six.
Brady Miller and Folger Boaz will face off in the finale. Miller has not recorded a decision yet this year, but has a 0.82 ERA in 22 innings, with 25 strikeouts. His last start saw him match his career high of seven innings while striking out a career-high nine. Boaz is 2-0 this season with a 6.28 ERA in 28 innings of work while striking out 23. In his last start against Notre Dame, Boaz lasted 2.1 innings while allowing seven earned runs to go with two strikeouts.
Last Time Out
Boston College defeated Maine in its lone midweek contest, 7-4. Jacob Burnham, Chase Hartsell, and Sean Hard all pitched for the Eagles and combined to give up three earned runs while striking out 10, led by four from Burnham. On the offensive side, Julio Solier and Ty Mainolfi combined to bring in four runs while Solier led all of Boston College with two hits. The Eagles scored four runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined to come back from a 4-3 deficit to rally for the victory.
