Eagles Combine for Multiple First-Place Finishes in Coral Gables

The swim and dive team found successes at its first meet of 2020
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Boston College swim and dive teams opened up the 2020 calendar year on Saturday as the men's team faced Harvard and the women took on Miami. The Eagles are back in action on Jan. 14, hosting Tufts at the Margot Connell Recreation Center.Â

- The relay team of Colin O'Leary, Sami Fares, Matt Clark and Sam Roche placed third in the 200 yard medley relay, finishing in 1:33.25. Jon Farah, Peter Shepanzyk, Damion Geoghegan Ribeiro and Michael Hinton followed closely behind, placing fourth in 1:35.25.
- Zachary Szmania placed second in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:34.15. He also placed fourth in the 500 yard freestyle with a 4:42.09 finish.
- Clark placed second in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing in 1:41.88. The freshman also finished second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 45.73.
- Fares placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a 57.79 finish.
- Cole Gvozdas earned a third-place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a 1:56.31 time.
- Hinton (21.29) and Geoghegan Ribeiro (21.32) placed first and second, respectively, in the 50 yard freestyle.
- O'Leary earned the second spot in the 200 yard backstroke, finishing in 1:54.74.
- Shepanzyk (2:07.80), Ryan Price (2:11.74) and Aleksej Cupic (2:19.82) placed third through fifth in the 200 yard breaststroke.
- Roche earned the fourth place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a 51.79 time.
- Matt Szekely (1:57.02), Lucas Saliba (1:59.35) and Farah (2:01.12) swept the top three finishes in the 200 yard individual medley.
- The Eagles' relay teams took the top two in the 400 yard freestyle relay: Hinton, Roche, Zander Santana and Max Threlkeld placed first (3:07.60) while Evan O'Mara, Kevin Chandra, Griffin Taylor and Cupic placed second (3:14.02).
- Maura Grimes, Taylor Covington, Victoria Lin and Haley Dolan placed first in the 200 yard medley relay with a 1:44.82 finish. Nicole Barkemeyer, Anna Milia, Mary Kate Gannon and Sofia Zinis (1:47.61) placed third in the same event.
- Linsdey Ryalls placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a 10:32.68 performance. Sophia Miller (10:42.78) and Alexa Lantin (10:49.06) placed third and fourth, respectively.
- Ali Kea (1:54.21), Kristina Fecarotta (1:54.65), and Ashleigh Scott (1:54.76) placed third through fifth in the 200 yard freestyle.
- Grimes (57.60), Barkemeyer (58.80) and McGeary (59.25) placed second through fourth in the 100 yard backstroke.
- Covington (1:06.55), Julia Donahue (1:07.81) and Milia (1:07.98) placed second through fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke.
- Dolan (23.55), Kea (23.80) and Zinis (24.05) swept the top three finishes in the 50 yard freestyle.
- Kea (52.23), Scott (52.33) and Lauren Quinn (52.33) placed third through fifth in the 100 yard freestyle.Â
- Barkemeyer (2:06.48), McGeary (2:07.68) and Grimes (2:08.66) swept the top three finishes in the 200 yard backstroke.
- Lantin (2:21.33) finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke while Covington placed second (2:26.25).
- Ryalls (5:11.07), Fecarotta (5:11.69) and Miller (5:12.14) finished second through fourth in the 500 yard freestyle.
- Gannon (57.44) and Lin (57.47) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 yard butterfly.
- Lantin (2:10.19) and Donahue (2:11.26) placed second and third in the 200 yard individual medley.
- The team of Scott, Dolan, Quinn and Aileen Coyne earned the second-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a 3:29.92 finish while Zinis, Kea, Barkemeyer and Ryalls placed third with a 3:32.50 finish.
