SERIES HISTORY
- Boston College and Syracuse meet for the 50th time Saturday.
- Syracuse leads the all-time series, 30-19.
- The two teams began series play in 1924 (10-0 Syracuse win). Both teams have split the last four meetings since 2010. Syracuse won last season, 20-17, in the season, finale for both schools.
- Three of the last four meetings have been decided by 10 points or less.
- The two schools met every year from 1971-2004.
- Boston College has several ties to Syracuse on its coaching staff. Fourth-year head coach Steve Addazio served on then SU head coach Paul Pasqualoni's staff from 1995-98. Pasqualoni, now the BC defensive line coach, led the Orange from 1991-2004 and guided Syracuse to four BIG EAST Championships. He ended his career at Syracuse with 107 victories, second- most in Cuse history.
- Jim Reid (2004), Brian White (2006- 07) and Reggie Terry (1993-2006) also spent time at Syracuse.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
- The Orange enter Saturday's game riding a huge momentum swing as SU defeated No. 17 Virginia Tech, 31-17, last weekend in the Carrier Dome.
- Syracuse (3-4) is one of the better offenses in the nation. Ranked 26th nationally in total offense, the Orange will look to attack the Eagles through the air as its passing offense ranks ninth in the nation.
- Sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey takes the snaps for Syracuse. In seven games, he has amassed over 2,000 yards this season and 12 touchdowns. He has also added six TDs on the ground.
- Syracuse is ranked 109th in rushing offense but will still look to factor this into its offense as lead rusher Dontae Strickland is averaging four yards per carry.
- Hauling in the catches for the Orange is Amba Etta-Tawo and Ervin Philips. The two receivers are the go-to guys for Dungey as they have reeled in 1,526 of the 2,197 passing yards this season and have scored 10 of the 12 receiving touchdowns.
THE EAGLES BREAKDOWN
- Boston College looks for its first win against Syracuse since a 28-7 victory at Alumni Stadium in 2014 against the Orange.
- As mentioned before, the Orange passing offense is one of the top units in nation, but so is the Eagles pass defense. Averaging a mere 149.7 yards per game, Boston College ranks fifth in the nation in passing yards allowed.
- Graduate quarterback Patrick Towles will once again be under center, as he has started every game this season. Towles has thrown for 897 yards and seven touchdowns.
- The wide receiver trio of sophomore Jeff Smith, sophomore Michael Walker and junior Charlie Callinan have recorded at least 125 yards and have a combined total of six touchdowns.
- Emerging as a dual threat tight end is sophomore Tommy Sweeney, who hauled in a team-high four catches for 48 yards against Clemson.
- Junior DE Harold Landry continues to tear up offensive lines as he tops the Eagles' leaderboard with 5.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for a loss.
