HOW IT HAPPENED
- On the first drive of the game, Harris intercepted a Dungey pass at the seven-yard line and returned it 64 yards, then a 15-yard penalty gave Boston College the ball at the Orange 29. BC converted that into three points with a 30-yard Mike Knoll field goal.
- Syracuse responded with a 10-play, 75-yard drive to take a 7-3 lead midway through the first quarter. Dungey passed for 63 yards on the drive and Ervin Philips finished it with a three-yard rushing touchdown.
- A nine-play, 80-yard drive capped by a Dungey to Philips 10-yard touchdown pass increased the Orange lead to 14-3 early in the second quarter.
- Willis took the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit down to 14-10 with 10:33 left in the half.
- Syracuse took advantage of a red zone interception and turned that into a nine-play, 86-yard touchdown drive to take a 21-10 lead with 15 seconds left in the third.
- On the second play of the ensuing drive, Towles took a bootleg keeper 75 yards for a touchdown to make it a 21-17 game to end the third quarter.
- Knoll pulled the Eagles to within a point with a 39-yard field goal with 10:02 left in the game.
- Syracuse responded immediately when Dungey connected with Amba Etta-Tawo for a 68-yard touchdown reception to push the lead to 28-20.
