Mainolfi went 4-for-5 at the plate; Hartsell picks up the win

LOWELL, Mass. - No. 20 Boston College baseball (34-14) defeated UMass Lowell (17-23) by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday evening in a midweek non-conference matchup at LeLacheur Park.

Ty Mainolfi went 4-for-5 at the plate with one triple and one RBI. Gunnar Johnson and Colin Larson each hit a double for the Eagles. Chase Hartsell picked up the win after allowing just one hit over two innings while striking out three batters.

Mainolfi got things going for the Eagles early with a triple in the top of the first inning to send Julio Solier across the plate for the 1-0 lead. In the next at-bat, Johnson grounded out to the shortstop, but Mainolfi was able to score to double the lead.

UMass Lowell got on the board in the second inning off an RBI single from Sean O'Leary.

BC pushed the lead back to two in the next half-inning when Mainolfi scored on a wild pitch.

After the River Hawks cut the lead down to one, the Eagles added two more runs in the fourth off a sac fly by Owen DeShazo, scoring both Larson and Kyle Wolff to make it a 5-2 game.

Boston College tacked on two runs in the fifth to push the lead to 7-2. Johnson hit an RBI double to left field to send Mainolfi across the plate. Charlie Comella came in to pinch run for Johnson and immediately scored on the next at-bat as Luke Gallo hit a single to left field.

UMass Lowell started to chip away at the lead with two RBI singles in the sixth to make it a three-run game. In the seventh inning, the River Hawks put two runners on-base before Brayden Cali sent both of them across the plate with a triple through the left side to cut the BC lead down to one.

Sean Hard retired the side in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game and earn the save.
