CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 20 Boston College baseball (35-14, 17-8) defeated Clemson (26-20, 6-21) by a score of 8-4 on Friday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
A.J. Colarusso started for the Eagles and went six innings while matching his season high of seven strikeouts to earn his fifth win of the season. Nick Wang and Kyle Wolff each had two RBI, with both hitting home runs.Â
Boston College earned its program record 17th ACC win while also setting two program records. The Eagles had four stolen bases on the night, and in the top of the ninth inning, Ty Mainolfi stole second to give Boston College 131 stolen bases this year. Cesar Gonzalez relieved Colarusso in the seventh and closed out the game to help BC earn its 15th save of the season.Â
Wang opened the scoring for the Eagles with his 15th home run of the year, which was a 379-foot solo shot to left field.Â
Boston College extended its lead in the top of the second with three more runs. Danny Suroweic laced a one-out double down the right field line before being brought in on a similar hit ball to right field by Ben Williams. Williams came into score when Julio Solier ripped a single into center field. Solier came into score for the third run when Wang knocked a double to right field.Â
The Tigers responded in the bottom of the second with two runs of their own, both coming with two outs.Â
In the top of the third inning, Wolff hit his fourth home run in his last four games when he hit a ball 400 feet to left field, which brought in Luke Gallo, who had singled in the prior at-bat.Â
Clemson cut the deficit to two in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run 393-foot shot to left field.Â
The Eagles added two insurance runs in the ninth inning. Mainolfi would bring in Solier, who had advanced to third after walking to start the inning. Mainolfi would steal second and advance to third on a single by Gunnar Johnson. Gallo would put down a bunt back towards the pitcher, and after a review, Mainolfi would be ruled safe at home, which made it 8-4.
