Eagles Set to Take on No. 23 South Carolina on the Road

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (9-15) travels to the University of South Carolina (16-10)Â for a three-game series against the Gamecocks. Competition starts on Friday night at 6 p.m. at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. All three contests will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
Last Time Out
The Eagles return from their spring break trip after posting a 3-3 record across games in North Carolina and Virginia. They started with a midweek matchup at North Carolina A&T where they won 11-2 as Maycee Hilt hit the second grand slam of the season. With 10 runs in the first inning, Boston College recorded its first inning of more than eight runs since 2015.
The Eagles then participated in the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech where they faced Michigan, JMU, Penn State, Bryant and Radford. Highlights of the five games include; Emily Van Cleef throwing a complete game shutout against Bryant, Emma Knight totaling 10 hits and three home runs while slugging 1.105, Meghan Schouten driving in 12 RBI and AD Martinez hitting her first career home run.
Good Knight
Freshman Emma Knight is off to a strong start to her career, this past week she put together an impressive weekend for the Eagles, batting .526 with 10 hits and seven RBI.
After the UNC series, Knight joined the history book as just the sixth Eagle with two home runs in the same game and recorded seven RBI in a single game to tie Hall of Famer Tatiana Cortez for most single game in history, the last time happening in 2017.
A Look at the Leaderboard
Knight is leading the team in RBI with 24 total including eight multi RBI games. Abby Ptak is leading in batting average (.425), slugging percentage (.613) and hits (34). Her 34 hits are good enough for top 10 in the ACC. Schouten has recorded a team high seven doubles and is in the top 10 in the ACC.
Van Cleef has the lowest ERA on the pitching staff at 2.83 through 34.2 innings resulting in five wins. Kelly Colleran has the most strikeouts at 38.

The Eagles are 1-3 against the Gamecocks, last facing them in 2020.
This week in the polls the Gamecocks are ranked No. 23 by the NFCA and D1Softball and No. 24 by Softball America and USA Softball/ESPN. SC opened their conference play against Texas, the defending National Champions, before they went into a midweek battle with Duke and Coastal Carolina only defeating Coastal Carolina in the stretch
The Gamecocks have two batters hitting over .400 in Karley Shelton (.420) and Quincee Lilio (.419). Jori Heard is leading on the mound with 55.2 innings pitched and 47 strikeouts.

Boston College will travel to Providence for a midweek double header against the Friars before they jump back into ACC play on the road at Pitt.
