CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College softball head coach Beth Krysiak has announced the addition of Melanie Savala to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.
"I would like to thank coach Krysiak for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this great staff at BC," said coach Savala. I am looking forward to serving and investing in this team, helping create a culture and environment where student-athletes feel valued and supported, and establishing BC as a strong contender in the ACC. I believe the University's values, facilities, and the Boston area will lay the foundation for our future success. I am excited and honored to represent the Eagles."
Savala spent one season at Kennesaw State after spending the previous two years on the coaching staff at Saint Francis (PA), where she played a key role in one of the most successful stretches in program history.
During her tenure in Loretto, the Red Flash compiled a 67-40 overall record and a 38-7 mark in Northeast Conference play, capturing back-to-back NEC Tournament championships. The coaching staff earned NEC Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2024, while Savala helped develop four NFCA All-Region selections and 13 all-conference performers.
Working primarily with the program's hitters and outfielders, Savala oversaw the development of Savannah Nash, the 2025 NEC Player of the Year. Nash led the conference with a .421 batting average and 18 stolen bases while earning NFCA Second Team All-Region recognition.
Under Savala's guidance, Olivia Ulam collected multiple postseason honors, including NEC Golden Glove, NEC Female Student-Athlete of the Year and NEC Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year. Ulam also paced the conference with 14 doubles and earned first-team all-conference recognition.
The Red Flash placed six players on the 2025 All-NEC teams, including first-team selections Nash, Ulam, Hannah Bendle and Allie Braly. Annabelle Farmer and AB Cipalla earned second-team honors, while Cipalla and Sofia Zielinski were named to the conference's all-rookie team.
In her first season at Saint Francis, Savala helped guide the Red Flash to both the NEC regular-season and tournament championships. The offense posted one of the strongest statistical seasons in program history, ranking second in batting average (.303), fourth in hits (440) and fifth in both RBIÂ (280) and doubles (76).
Prior to Saint Francis, Savala spent the 2023 season at Wingate University, where the Bulldogs posted a 48-17 record, claimed the program's first regular-season title since 2009 and advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals after capturing the Southeast Regional championship.
Savala began her collegiate coaching career at Millsaps College, serving on staff from 2020-22. In 2022, the Majors recorded an 11-7 conference mark — their highest conference win total since 2017 — highlighted by a series victory over nationally ranked Berry College.
Throughout her coaching career, Savala has specialized in hitter and outfielder development while contributing to practice planning, scouting report preparation, film analysis and player development initiatives.
A former standout student-athlete at the University of Dallas, Savala appeared in a program-record 156 games and established the school record with five stolen bases in a single game. She earned All-SCAC honors in 2016 and was named an SCAC Academic Honor Roll selection in 2018 and 2019. Savala played her first three seasons under current head coach Beth Krysiak.
