
Eagles Score Nine Straight to Take Down William & Mary on Friday Night

Joey Ryan delivered three-inning save in his third scoreless outing of the season in the win
The Eagles opened the scoring in the second inning, started off by a single from Jack Toomey. Gunnar Johnson reached on a HBP, and the pair advanced into scoring position on a double steal. Moments later, and Sam McNulty broke the 0-0 tie with an RBI single to the left side. Johnson and McNulty came around to score on wild pitches, and Kyle Wolff punctuated the inning with an RBI single to right-center, putting BC up 4-0 through one and a half frames.
The Tribe responded with six in their half of the second, rallying with two outs to claim an early 6-4 lead. The hosts added one in the third to take a 7-4 lead after three full.
The Eagles got one back in the fourth, with Josiah Ragsdale reaching on catcher's interference, stealing second and third, and crossing home on a fielding error at second base. William & Mary extended their lead in the bottom of the frame on a three-run home run, pushing the host's lead to 10-5.
BC responded with a two-spot in the 6th, and the comeback was on with a Nick Wang two-run single to right field. Dylan Howanitz came in to pitch the sixth for BC, and delivered his second scoreless inning in as many outings, striking out one over a 1-2-3 seventh in a major momentum-shifting inning.Â
The Eagles rallied in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead. Jack Toomey led off the seventh with a sky-high pop up, reaching second base on an outfield error. The Eagles worked the bases loaded, and Kyle Wolff delivered with a two-run single into right-center. Patrick Roche followed with an RBI single of his own, and Vince Cimini gave BC a 12-11 lead with a perfectly-placed bloop single into center field to bring home two.
Enter Joey Ryan.Â
Ryan entered the game at pitcher with a 12-11 lead, and shut down The Tribe in the seventh, going 1-2-3 and preserving the lead into the eighth inning. The Eagles added another in the top of the eighth, with Patrick Roche legging out an infield single to bring Sam McNulty home from third. Joey Ryan came back out for the home half of the eighth and continued to cruise, setting down the side in order for the second straight inning.
In the top of the ninth, Adam Magpoc reached on his third walk of the game, and after advancing to third, Jack Toomey picked him up with a sacrifice fly to push the BC lead to 14-11.
Joey Ryan came back out for the ninth and closed the game, capping off his third scoreless appearance in as many outings this season, picking up another save (2). Dylan Howanitz earned the win for the Eagles (1-0).
The Eagles will look to continue the momentum on Saturday afternoon, with a 1:00 matchup at Richmond.Â
