Eagles Set to Face Maryland in a Three Game Series

COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- The Boston College softball team will take on Maryland for a three-game series in College Park, Md., on March 8th.

Boston College and Maryland have met 32 times on the diamond with the Terrapins leading by two, 15-17. The two teams first faced each other in 2003. In the Eagles' last match-up with the Terrapins, BC defeated Maryland 3-2 at the UNC Charlotte Tournament.

INSIDE THE MATCH-UP

The Eagles and the Terrapins have faced off 32 times with the BC defeating Maryland 15 of those match-ups. The last time the two teams met was in 2022 BC won 3-2 in eight innings of work. BC out hit Maryland 10-7. Elisabeth Laviolette and Nicole Giery both added on doubles against the Terrapins as underclassmen in 2022.
Head Coach Lauren Karn took helm of the Terrapins softball program on August 31, 2023. In her first season with Maryland the team is 5-9 on the season.
Prior to the Terrapins Karn has served as the head coach at Oakland for the last six seasons (2018-23), posting .500 or better records in each of the last three seasons. She was named Horizon League Coach of the Year following both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
The Terrapins also faced LIU early in the season. Maryland was defeated 0-3 by the Sharks Feb. 24. The Eagles split the weekend with LIU going 3-0 then 1-9.
Sophomore pitcher Genevieve Ebaugh pitched her first career shutout and complete game against St. Peters on Thursday (3/7).
Maryland currently sits 13th in the Big10 rankings, with a 7-12 record. The Terrapins are ranked 9th in the Big10 in both pitching and fielding. Bri Godfrey leads the Terrapins pitching staff with a 2.45 ERA, landing 12th in the Big10. Sophomore infielder Madison Runyan leads Maryland's defense with a 1.000 fielding percentage
Junior Hannah Slike and Senior Nicole Giery led the Eagles in its win against George Washington each with two hits on four at bats and 2 RBIs. Slike leads the Eagles offense with a .339 batting average.
