Eagles Split the Day with the Terrapins

Eagles take game one of the double-header, but fall in extra innings to Maryland in the second match-up
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Boston College broke a 0-1 deficit with two runs in the third as the Eagles defeated the Terrapins 3-1 in game one of a doubleheader Friday afternoon at the Maryland Softball field.Â
The Terrapins struck first with one run in the bottom of the second. The Eagles responded in the top of the third adding on two runs. Nicole Giery got the momentum started for BC after Gator Robinson walked to first, a Giery triple brought Robinson through home plate. With Hannah Slike up to bat, a groundout to first base pushed Giery home. Â
The Eagles added to the board in the top of the fifth with bases loaded. Makenna Segal grounded to short stop moving Giery home.
Abby Dunning threw her seventh complete game of the season, adding 10 strikeouts on just three walks and 7 hits.
In game two, Halie Pappion held off the Terps, dishing out four innings of no hits. Maryland struck first in the fifth, scoring on a fielding error.Â
The Eagles responded quickly in the sixth inning when Slike singled up the middle allowing Gator to score to tie the game. Jules Shields quickly gave the Eagles the lead, moving Giery through home plate off of a single hit up the middle.
In the bottom of the seventh the Terrapins answered, scoring off of a triple to center field.Â
The game entered extra innings with both teams staying off the board until the bottom of the ninth. A Maryland hit to the fence brought the Terps runner home.  Â
BC finishes its three game series against the University of Maryland tomorrow back at the Maryland Softball Field. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.Â
