BC Softball Opens Season at the FGCU Tournament

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Boston College softball program will begin its 2024 campaign with the Eagles opening their regular season at the FGCU tournament in Fort Myers, Fla., on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Boston College will face three softball programs (Florida Gulf Coast, Long Island, and Georgetown) during its five-game stint in the Sunshine State. This weekend's action will mark the first of three trips to Florida for the Eagles as the program will also participate in the USF Tournament and the FAU Tournament throughout February.

LEADING OFF

BC is 3-1 under Head Coach Amy Kvilhaug in season openers following last year's 4-0 victory over Illinois State University on February 10 at the USF Tournament in Tampa, Fla.
Since 1992, BC is 14-18 in the first game of the season.
BC is 1-6 all-time against FGCU with the last victory coming in 2012 (6-3). The Eagles are 3-0 against LIU with the last victory coming in 2022 (9-1). BC is 1-1 all-time against Georgetown University winning the last time the teams met in 2020 (9-1).
This will be the fifth season for head coach Amy Kvilhaug, who was hired on July 2, 2019. Kvilhaug led BC to a 24-28 record last season. Prior to BC, Kvilhaug was the head coach at Radford and St. John's, where she won a combined 408 games.
BC returns five position starters, along with two primary pitchers from last season's squad.
Junior pitcher Abby Dunning headlines the BC rotation in 2024. Last season, she led the staff with a 3.70 ERA in 158 innings of work. She finished the season 13-11 and totaled 147 strikeouts in 158 innings.
The Eagles have six newcomers on the roster plus three new transfers.
