Eagles and No. 15 UMass Lowell Skate to 2-2 Hockey East Tie

LOWELL, Mass. – Boston College and No. 15 UMass Lowell skated to a 2-2 Hockey East tie on Friday night at the Tsongas Center as the River Hawks earned an extra league point by winning the shootout.
The Eagles (9-10-6, 5-7-5 HEA) clinched the regular season series against Lowell (15-9-2, 9-5-2 HEA) with a win and a tie.
Junior assistant captain Trevor Kuntar posted his ninth goal of the season, while Andre Gasseau assisted on both BC goals. Rookie defenseman Seamus Powell scored his first collegiate goal in the second period, assisted by his brother Eamon Powell.
Boston College killed off a major power play in the opening period, but UMass Lowell struck first with 2:53 remaining in the first when Scout Truman picked the top right corner glove side on the power play.
Kuntar tied the game four and a half minutes into the second period directly off an offensive zone faceoff. Cutter Gauthier and Gasseau combined to win the draw to Kuntar above the left dot and the junior fired a low shot into the bottom right corner.
BC took its first lead of the night with five minutes left in the middle frame. Seamus Powell took a pass from his older brother Eamon along the left wing and ripped a shot high blocker side through traffic from just above the faceoff dot. Gasseau collected his second assist of the night on the play.
The River Hawks answered with five seconds remaining in the period on another power play goal, this time on Fillip Fornaa Svensson's right wing effort which beat a screened Mitch Benson blocker side.
The Eagles took the lead in the shootout on a goal by Eamon Powell in the second round, but UMass Lowell scored on back-to-back attempts and clinched the extra point through Brian Chambers in round four.
BC out-shot Lowell 34-28 on the night, led by six shots from Kuntar.
Boston College will face No. 8 Harvard in the first semifinal of the 70th Beanpot on Monday night. Faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at TD Garden on NESN.
