The Cardinals (19-5, 6-0 ACC) led 4-0 after three and were kept off the board for each of the next four innings before exploding for nine runs on just five hits in the top of the eighth. Left fielder Cameron Masterman supplied the big blow; a three-run home run.

Senior right-hander Mason Pelio (San Diego, Calif.) lasted 2.2 innings in the start. First baseman Dalton Rushing hit a two-run home run off Pelio in the first before the Cardinals turned four straight walks into runs in the third. Pelio (1-2) struck out three and allowed four runs on three hits and four walks.

In middle relief, junior right-hander Evan Moore (Rocky Hill, Conn.) provided three-prefect innings with two strikeouts to keep it a four-run game. For Moore, it marked his first time on the home mound since March 10, 2020 as he missed the entire 2021 season beating testicular cancer.
