
BC Picks Up Road Win at No. 25 UConn

STORRS, Conn. – The Boston College baseball team went on the road and defeated No. 25 Connecticut, 5-3, at Elliot Ballpark on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 10-14 on the season and remain unbeaten against New England competition, while the Huskies took their first home loss and dropped to 17-6.
Sophomore right fielder Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) hit his ninth home run of the season; a solo shot in the fifth that gave Boston College a 3-2 lead as the Eagles scored for the third consecutive inning. In the seventh, BC added to its lead with a two-run home run to right by sophomore first baseman Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) as he connected on his seventh long ball of the year.
In his first career start, freshman right-hander Julian Tonghini (New Canaan, Conn.) tossed three innings on one run ball in a no-decision. The one run was unearned, reaching on a three-base error in the first, as he allowed just one hit and did not walk a batter.
Graduate right-hander Henry Leake (Burbank, Calif.) got the win in three-shutout innings of relief. He allowed just one base runner on one hit and struck out three. Sophomore RHP Joey Ryan (Norwood, Mass.) earned a two-inning save; his first. Ryan allowed one run on two this and two walks with three strikeouts.
First baseman Ben Huber powered the UConn lineup with a two-RBI day, including a solo home run. Starter Cole Chuboda (1-1) took the loss in 4.2 innings of work. He surrendered three runs on eight hits and struck out four.
