#1 Eagles Open Season against #4 Northwestern

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The top-ranked Boston College lacrosse team begins its 2021 title defense at home against #4 Northwestern on Saturday, Feb. 12 at noon inside Fish Field House. The game will be shown on ACCNX and will be closed to the public.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Northwestern enters 2022 as the preseason #4 team after its 15-1 season and only loss coming in the final four to Syracuse. Offensively, their top returning scorer is Lauren Gilbert, who had 66 goals and nine assists last season. Tewaaraton finalist Izzy Scane, who had 124 points on 98 goals and 26 assists, has announced she is out for 2022 with a knee injury. In goal, the Wildcats return Madison Doucette, who saw over 900 minutes in goal, with a 15-1 record and 11.06 GAA average.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The defending champs return every starter from the final four except attacker Cara Urbank. Leading the way is graduate student Charlotte North, who is coming off one of the greatest single seasons ever. The attack will be headlined by North and senior Jenn Medjid, both of whom were named consensus preseason All-Americans. North and Medjid combined for 193 points last season and 163 goals. The defense returns every starter from the final four, which is BC's youngest unit. Playing in front of senior Rachel Hall in goal will be Temple grad transfer Courtney Taylor, junior Hollie Schleicher and sophomores Hunter Roman and Sydney Scales. Also getting defensive looks is grad student Mel Welch, with Sophia Taglich as the main defensive middie.

THE QUEEN OF THE NORTH
Charlotte North is the best player in the nation. She is coming off a Tewaaraton winning season, breaking the record for goals in a season with 102, while also setting the NCAA Tournament record for goals with 31. She tied the NCAA Championship game record for goals with 6 to lead BC to the title. North is currently the active leader in the NCAA in goals with 266 and 75 behind Stony Brook's Courtney Murphy for career goals with 341. She also has 125 goals in her careeer at BC and 75 to tie the NCAA record would make her the second BC player to reach 200 goals and trail only Sam Apuzzo (278)

OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
Averaging over 17 goals per game, BC has one of the best offenses in the country. They ranked third in the country and lead the ACC in scoring. Leading the way is Tewaaraton winner Charlotte North, who had 102 goals and 12 assists this season. The Eagles have also been incredibly efficient, leading the nation with a .531 shooting percentage. They average 16.8 goals per game on 32 shots per game.Â

The Eagles have made Championship Weekend a staple to their season and have shown no plans to slow down. BC is the defending champs, coming off a 16-11 win over Syracuse to win its first-ever title. BC has been in the final four the past four tournaments, falling in the title game each year.
