Eagles and No. 18 Friars Skate to 1-1 Hockey East Tie

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Boston College and No. 18 Providence skated to a 1-1 tie on Saturday night at Schneider Arena, but the Friars earned an extra Hockey East point by winning the shootout 2-1 in four rounds.

The Eagles snapped their five-game losing streak and pushed their record to 10-10-4 (5-7-3 HEA), while the Friars moved to 16-9-2 (7-7-1 HEA).

Senior defenseman Jack St. Ivany scored his fourth goal of the season for BC, while graduate student Eric Dop stopped 38 of the 39 shots he faced.

Boston College finished the night 5-for-5 on the penalty kill and went 1-for-3 on the power play.

St. Ivany gave BC a 1-0 lead on the power play at 11:51 of the first as he stung a left wing one-timer glove side to beat Jaxson Stauber through traffic. Drew Helleson and Nikita Nesterenko collected the assists on the play.

Providence tied the game late in the second period when Riley Duran slid a pass to the front of the net for an open Kohen Olischefski to fire blocker side from the low slot.

In the shootout, Marc McLaughlin scored in the first round to give BC the lead, but Parker Ford answered by going high glove side in round two. The Friars ended the night in the fourth round when Nick Poisson beat Dop five-hole.

Boston College travels to Orono to face Maine at Alfond Arena next Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
