No. 4 Eagles Face No. 1 North Carolina in NCAA Semifinal

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 4 Boston College lacrosse team takes on No. 1 North Carolina in the NCAA Semifinal on Friday, May 28 in Towson, Maryland at 12 p.m. in Johnny Unitas Stadium.
This is the Eagles' fourth-straight trip to Championship Weekend, following three national title game appearances from 2017-19.
SETTING THE STAGE
BC enters as the #4 seed taking on #1 seeded North Carolina. In the first matchup this year, Carolina won 21-9 in Chapel Hill. The Eagles are 5-18 all time against UNC, but have traded wins the last seven meetings.
BC's last win against UNC came in 2019 in the exact same situation. In Baltimore during the National Semifinal, the Eagles beat the Tar Heels, 15-14 in overtime to make the national title game.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina enters the final four as the undisputed top team in the country. They're 20-0 and won the ACC regular season and tournament titles. Their offense is led by Tewaaraton finalist Jamie Ortega, who has 81 goals and 26 assists this season, while fellow All-American Katie Hoeg has 35 goals and 70 assists this year. They have one of the best defenses in the country, giving up 6.35 goals per game. Leading the unit is Tewaaraton finalist Taylor Moreno, who has a 6.41 goals against average and .556 save percentage.
THE CHARLOTTE NORTH SHOW
Charlotte North has been the most electric player in the country and has broken record after record. North tied Sam Apuzzo's '19 BC record for goals in a season with 94, while also having 11 assists for 105 points. In three NCAA Tournament games, North set the record for goals in a single NCAA Tournament with 23. She's done so scoring eight goals twice and then seven once. The eight goals is a BC record for goals in a NCAA Tournament game. North also set the BC and ACC record for goals in a game with 10 against Virginia Tech. A native of Dallas, North has also been stellar in in the circle, grabbing 170 draws this season. The total is the second-most in a single season at BC and is currently third in the country.
OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
Averaging over 17 goals per game, BC has one of the best offenses in the country. They rank third in the country and lead the ACC in scoring. Leading the way is Tewaaraton finalist Charlotte North, who has 94 goals and 11 assists this season. BC has the whole offense buzzing though, with Cara Urbank (37G, 41A) and Jenn Medjid (55G, 17A) tallying 78 and 72 points, respectively. Urbank is currently tied for second for assists in a single season at BC.
The Eagles have also been incredibly efficient, leading the nation with a .530 shooting percentage. They average 17.11 goals per game on 32 shots per game.
MAKE IT, TAKE IT LACROSSE
BC not only scores tons of goals, but they play make it take it lacrosse. The Eagles are third in the country averaging 18.47 draws per game. Charlotte North leads the draw unit with 170 draws this year, which is third in the country and second in a single season at BC. There are three Eagles in the top-10 in the ACC in draws with North, Hollie Schleicher (5th) and Cara Urbank (9th). Schleicher has the seventh-most draws in a single season at BC with 84.
BC is fourth in the country in draw percentage at 61.7%.
RECORDS ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN
At the beginning of the 2021 season, Sam Apuzzo stood alone as BC's single-game goal scorer with nine against Navy in 2018. Against Louisville on March 28, Jenn Medjid tied that mark, scoring nine goals (including seven in the first half) to tie Apuzzo's record. Not even two weeks later, Charlotte North had one of the best single-game performances in BC history, scoring 10 goals on 13 shots to break Apuzzo's record. She also added an assist, 13 draw controls and three caused turnovers against Virginia Tech.
Belle Smith, who has 59 points on 44 goals and 15 assists, has broken Covie Stanwick and Brooke Blue's freshman record for points in a season of 55. Smith has been one of the best goal-scoring freshmen that BC has seen and is tied with Blue's record of 44 goals as a freshman.
In her second NCAA Tournament game of her career, North broke BC's record for goals in a NCAA Tournament game with eight against Temple. North then tied that BC record in the NCAA Quarterfinal against Notre Dame, which broke the record for goals in a single NCAA Tournament with 23.

If BC wins, they'll take on the winner of No. 2 Northwestern against No. 3 Syracuse on Sunday, May 30 at Johnny Unitas Stadium for the national title.
