Eagles earn the DH split to begin ACC action in Raleigh
RALEIGH, N.C. – Boston College and NC State split a doubleheader Wednesday in Raleigh to open ACC play for both teams. The Eagles shutout the Wolfpack 1-0 in game one before NC State rallied from a 3-0 deficit in game two to capture a 6-3 victory.
Boston College (2-4, 1-1 ACC) got things started early in the first inning as AJ Alatorre drove in Ellie Mataya for the 1-0 lead. Mataya led off the first with a single, stole second and later scored.
The Eagles added to their lead in the third as Emme Martinez delivered the big hit with a two-run single to plate Alatorre and Jenna Ergle to make it 3-0.
NC State (1-1, 1-1 ACC) tied it up on one swing in the top of the fifth as Angie Rizzi connected on a three-run homer to even things up at three. The home run came with two outs as the Wolfpack took an advantage of a BC error in the frame to score three unearned runs.
The Wolfpack used the long ball again in the sixth as Sam Russ hit a two-run shot to right and added a run on a pop fly to extend the advantage to 6-3.
Mataya was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Eagles.
BC continues its road trip in North Carolina tomorrow as the Eagles visit UNC in Chapel Hill. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. with live coverage on ACC Network Extra.
