The lacrosse team dropped its conference opener in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Despite a ferocious defensive battle, the No. 18 Boston College women's lacrosse team (3-3, 0-1 ACC) dropped its conference opener, 11-7, to No. 2 Notre Dame. Senior captain Cara Urbank and sophomore Courtney Weeks each tallied two goals to lead the Eagles, but the offensive prowess of the Irish proved too much to halt.Â
Sophomore Caitlynn Mossman got the scoring started for BC with her second goal of the season, answering Notre Dame's Andie Aldave to even the score at 1-1 with 28:07 to go in the opening half. Charlotte North found her first and only score of the game following Mossman's, giving the Eagles the lead at 2-1. The Irish combined for back-to-back scores to take the lead back, but Urbank stopped the run and evened the score at 3-3. Aldave capped the opening half with her third goal of the day, giving the Irish a one-goal lead into the break.
The Irish found the upper-hand in the second half, earning six goals and only allowing one from Urbank for the visiting Eagles. BC kicked it into gear with 2:21 remaining, as a late burst found one score from Jenn Medjid and two goals from Courtney Weeks just 25 seconds apart, but it wasn't enough to erase the deficit.
