No. 20 Eagles Host Hofstra For Midweek Matchup
March 10, 2020 | Lacrosse
The lacrosse team begins a three-game home slate tomorrow
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 20 Boston College women's lacrosse team (3-3, 0-1 ACC) returns to Newton to host Hofstra (4-2, 0-0 CAA) on Wednesday at 4:00 PM. The nonconference matchup will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
The Eagles dropped their conference opener to No. 2 Notre Dame, but not without a relentless defensive battle from BC. Boston College held one of the top offensive powers in the nation to just four goals in the opening frame, as the Irish averaged 18 goals per game before meeting the Eagles. Cara Urbank and Courtney Weeks both scored twice for the Eagles while Rachel Hall held up with 10 saves, but it wasn't enough to erase a seven-goal second half from the Irish.
The nonconference matchup with Hofstra has been in an eight-year hiatus, as the teams haven't met since 2012. The Pride took the first meeting in 1992 with a dominant 14-6 victory before the Eagles bounced back to win two straight (1993, 1994). The Eagles hold a slight advantage all-time, 5-4, as BC is currently riding a three-game win streak, taking the victory in 2005, 2011 and 2012. The series is even on BC's home turf, with each team securing two wins for a 2-2 shared record in Newton.
The Eagles continue a three-game home stretch following Wednesday's game, welcoming Virginia Tech to Newton to continue conference play for Cancer Awareness Day.
