The lacrosse team faces the Irish in South Bend for its first conference matchup of the season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The No. 18 Boston College women's lacrosse team (3-2, 0-0 ACC) is set for its most challenging opponent so far this season in No. 2 Notre Dame (5-0, 1-0 ACC), as BC opens up conference play on Saturday in South Bend. The matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra with first draw set for 3:00 PM.Â
The Eagles meet the Irish after a bit of a break, having last seen game action on Feb. 25 where the team found a 13-10 victory over Brown in Newton. Charlotte North and Jenn Medjid both put up three goals as Cara Urbank and Jordan Lappin contributed two a piece en route to the teams' 29th-straight win on home turf.
The Irish already got off on the right foot in league play, topping No. 22 Duke 13-9 in their conference opener. Notre Dame has already notched two wins over ranked opponents (Duke and then-No. 3 Northwestern) so far this season, adding to its undefeated record.
The rivalry matchup has been evenly-matched throughout history, as the Eagles hold an 8-7 all-time advantage in the series dating back to 1999. Boston College earned its first victory over the Fighting Irish on March 26, 2005, with a narrow 10-9 final score. The Eagles have come out on top in each of the last five meetings, having faced each other twice in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons, spoiling Notre Dame's postseason rallies.
In the last meeting, the Eagles tallied their 13th straight win on the season with a 13-9 decision in Newton. Sam Apuzzo and Cara Urbank each put up three goals as Kenzie Kent scored six points off of two goals and four helpers in the effort. Goalkeeper Abbey Ngai held up with a career-best 14 saves between the pipes.
Following Saturday's contest, the Eagles return home to host Hofstra on Wednesday, March 11 at 4:00 PM. The midweek matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network.
