Urbank's Career Day Lifts Eagles Over Vanderbilt
February 16, 2020 | Lacrosse
Senior captain Cara Urbank tallied a career-best six goals as the Eagles defeated the Commodores, 15-12
NEWTON, Mass. – Senior captain Cara Urbank's career-best six goals paced the No. 5 Boston College women's lacrosse team to a 15-12 win over Vanderbilt on Sunday at the Newton Lacrosse Complex. Freshman Hollie Schleicher recorded her first collegiate points on two goals while sophomore Jenn Medjid tallied the third hat trick of her career. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Hall put up 11 saves to hold off the Commodores' offense en route to the win.
The Commodores got on the board first with a goal from Bri Gross, but the Eagles quickly answered back as Urbank and Annie Walsh combined for three straight scores. Vanderbilt returned the favor with four of its own to take a 5-3 lead, but back-to-back goals from Jordan Lappin less than a minute apart and Schleicher's first career gave the Eagles a one-goal lead heading into the break at 6-5.
Vanderbilt opened the second frame with a goal from Griffin Gearhardt, but Urbank and Medjid both found the back of the net to push the Eagles' lead. Two Commodores goals tied the game at 8-all before Medjid tallied her second of the day to regain the advantage for BC. Two more goals from Vanderbilt gave the visitors their first lead of the half, but the Eagles exploded with a 6-0 run to put the game away.
