Eagles Shine in Win at Tufts

10 pool records were set as the Eagles continue their win streak
MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Boston College swim and dive team topped Tufts Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated in 2019. The men's team held a 196-164 advantage while the women earned 237.5 points to Tufts' 138.5. The teams collectively claimed 10 Tufts University pool records over the day.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:Â
- The team of Maura Grimes, Taylor Covington, Victoria Lin and Ali Kea placed first in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:47.17: a Tufts pool record.
- Maura Grimes claimed another Tufts pool record with a 57.99 first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Teammates Michaela McGeary (1:00.50) and Grace Edwards (1:00.76) followed in second and third.
- Taylor Covington earned first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a final time of 1:06.58.
- Victoria Lin earned first place and claimed a pool record with her 26.17 finish in the 50-yard butterfly.
- Haley Dolan (24.54) and Ali Kea (24.61) placed first and second in the 50-yard freestyle.Â
- Ali Kea placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.44, while Ashleigh Scott tied for second (54.09) and Lauren Quinn placed fourth (54.32).
- Grace Edwards placed first in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:09.44.
- Maura Grimes placed first in the 50-yard backstroke, securing another pool record with her 27.48 finish. Ina Elcott followed behind with a 27.83 finish, good for second place.
- Taylor Covington placed first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 31.30.
- Victoria Lin added another pool record for her 58.10 first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
- Alexa Lantin (2:13.97) and Erika Freeman (2:14.04) placed first and second in the 200-yard individual medley.
- Ina Elcott (1:00.89), Lauren Quinn (1:02.08) and Victoria Lin (1:02.18) swept the top-three finishes in the 100-yard individual medley. Elcott's finish was good for a Tufts pool record.Â
- The relay team of Ashleigh Scott, Ali Kea, Haley Dolan and Julie Dobson claimed a pool record with their first-place 1:37.51 200-yard freestyle relay finish.
- Gabriella Taghian placed first in the women's 3-meter dive with a score of 257.99, while teammates Cecilia O'Reilly (252.00) and Mackenna Buchanan (246.67) placed second and third.Â
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
- Taylor Cortens, Billy Miller, Colin O'Leary and Colin Derdeyn placed second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:34.60.
- Zander Santana earned a win with his 9:57.49 finish in the 1000-yard freestyle.
- Ty Gruwell (1:45.17) and Taylor Cortens (1:45.18) earned first and second, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle.
- Charles Kleinsmith (58.93) and Billy Miller (59.13) placed first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- Colin Derdeyn placed first in the 50-yard butterfly with a final time of 23.32.
- Colin O'Leary placed first with a 1:53.24 finish in the 200-yard backstroke.
- Peter Shepanzyk placed first in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:10.82.
- Charles Kleinsmith claimed a pool record with a 26.47 finish in the 50-yard breaststroke. Billy Miller (26.70) and Sami Fares (27.41) followed in second and third.Â
- Zander Santana earned a win in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 4:50.16.
- Taylor Cortens earned another first-place finish in the 100-yard individual medley, finishing in 51.81 and securing another pool record.
- Michael Hinton, Colin Derdeyn, Damion Ribeiro and Paul Boyce also found a pool record with their 1:24.65 first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
- Robert McCrory placed first in both diving events, finding a 264.44 finish in the 1-meter dive and a 281.25 final score in the 3-meter dive.
The Eagles continue their road meets as they head to cross-town rival Boston University on Saturday.
