BC Opens 2018 With Fifth Place Finish at Dartmouth Relays

The 4x800 meter relay team finished in first place
HANOVER, N.H. – The Boston College men's track and field team ran its first race of 2018 at the 49th annual Dartmouth Relays inside Leverone Field House on Sunday. The Eagles finished in fifth place overall as a team with 40 points. Northeastern won the meet with 129 points.

The men's 4x800 team finished in first place with a time of 7:53.95. Sophomore Avery Mckenzie jumped 14.27 meters in the triple jump to qualify for the New England Championships. On the day, the Eagles finished in the top 10 in 10 of the events.

BC Highlights:
- Three Eagles competed in the 60 meter dash, including freshman J'Saun Bastien, sophomore Richard Webber and freshman Ryan Russell. Bastien and Webber finished in the top 20, earning 15th and 17th place with times of 7.27 and 7.28, respectively.
- The men's team had a strong showing in the 800 meter run as five student-athletes competed in the event. Junior Andrew Willis took third place overall out of 31 runners, crossing the line in 1:58.53. Freshman Ben Ruffing and sophomore Sean Conboy both finished in the top 10 as Ruffing took eighth place at 2:00.71 and Conboy earned 10th with a time of 2:01.32.
- Sophomore Ryan Scanlon and junior Michael Saxon took 18th and 19th respectively, to finish in the top 20.
- Junior Benjamin Osipow earned an eighth place finish in the one mile run with a time of 4:25.49.
- Sophomore Sean Sullivan took seventh place in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:44.96. He was followed close behind by junior Zachary Beston who took 11th place, crossing the line in 8:55.98.
- The 4x200 meter relay team of Webber, freshman Khalfani Green, Bastien and Russell took second place overall with a time of 1:32.30, less than a second behind UMass Amherst who took first place.
- The 4x400 meter relay team of senior Robert Brennan, junior Oliver Boucher, Saxon and Green earned a fourth place overall finish with a time of 3:25.99.
- The men's 4x800 meter relay team of junior Matthew Morano, junior Ian Ritchie, freshman Yahya Solimon and freshman Michael Hains earned the top performance of the day with a first place finish of 7:53.95 to finish six seconds in front of second place Northeastern.
- McKenzie took first place overall in the triple jump, jumping 14.27 meters, qualifying him for the New England Championships. Freshman Michael Oduro jumped 13.03 meters to earn fifth place.
The Boston College men's track team will compete at the Boston University Four Way Meet in Boston, Mass. on Thursday, Jan. 18.
