Eagles Bounce Back with Shutout Win

BC records its third shutout and stays perfect in non-conference action
Durham, N.H. – The ninth-ranked Boston College field hockey team shut out New Hampshire, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field. The Eagles (8-4) stayed perfect in non-conference action, earning their eighth victory and third shutout of the season.

The Wildcats (4-6) managed nine shots to BC's 14 and four corners to the Eagles' seven. The Eagles have won the last eight meetings against UNH and 15 of the last 16.

Senior Brooke Matherson scored the first goal of the game just over three minutes into the contest and BC did not look back, adding three more to seal the victory.

Sophomore goalie Sarah Dwyer recorded five saves in the victory, tallying her third shutout of her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: BC 1, UNH 0; 3:12: On the first corner of the game, senior Chelcie Mendonca took a shot on goal and Matherson tipped it in to give the Eagles the early, 1-0 lead.
GOAL: BC 2, UNH 0; 28:53: The Eagles took a 2-0 lead with just over six minutes to play in the first half on another corner opportunity. Junior Frederique Haverhals' shot was initially saved by UNH goalie Kelsey Rudert but freshman Elizabeth Warner put the rebound in to give BC a two-goal lead.
GOAL: BC 3, UNH 0; 39:13: Freshman Fusine Govaert made it a 3-0 lead on a drive off BC's second corner opportunity of the second half. Senior Alesandra Miller inserted the ball and Mendonca made the stick stop.
GOAL: BC 4, UNH 0; 69:13: Freshman Caroline McGovern scored the fourth goal of the game on a breakaway. She took Rudert one-on-one and slammed it to the back of the cage.

As part of Homecoming Weekend, BC will honor members of the 1997 Big East Championship team at halftime, marking the 20th anniversary of the title. - The Eagles improved to 23-7-1 in the all-times against UNH, winning the last eight matchups and 15 of the last 16. They have not lost in Durham since 2009.
- BC recorded its third shutout of the season. In each of the victories, the Eagles have scored at least three goals.
- BC improved to 4-0 after a loss and 8-0 in non-conference games.
- The Eagles are 7-0 when scoring first and 5-0 when leading at halftime.
