Eagles Set to Open 2026 Season Against Providence

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College field hockey is set to open the 2026 season on Friday at 3 p.m., welcoming Providence to Newton before traveling to UAlbany on Sunday. The Eagles enter the season looking to build on a 6-10 campaign in 2025 and return 14 players while welcoming seven freshmen and one graduate transfer to the Heights.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Eagles return a core group of contributors from last season, including four players who combined for 22 of Boston College's 25 goals in 2025.
Senior goalkeeper Charley Kramer returns between the posts for her final season on the Heights. Kramer currently ranks 10th in program history with 18 career wins and three shutouts. Last season, she posted a 1.40 goals-against average, ranking among the top 10 single-season marks in program history.
Graduate midfielder Milou Klein also enters her first season with the Eagles after being selected to the All-ACC Preseason Team, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
The Eagles will be led by captains Madelieve Drion, Maeve Seeger and Laila Rosenquest, who were selected by their teammates ahead of the 2026 season.
THE RETURNERS
Drion returns as one of Boston College's top offensive threats after leading the Eagles in points (11), goals (five) and shots on goal (16) last season. She started all 16 games and added one assist to her five goals.
Alex De Cain will return after starting all 16 games in 2025. She recorded four goals and two assists for 10 points, the second-highest total on the team, while posting a .696 shots-on-goal percentage. De Cain recorded a two-goal performance in Boston College's 8-2 victory over New Hampshire, helping the Eagles post their highest single-game goal total since 2016.
Caroline Chisholm appeared in all 16 games and earned 11 starts as a freshman. She recorded two goals and an assist, including a goal against Maryland off a penalty stroke.
Sophia Sisco also saw action in all 16 games, making four starts. She scored her first collegiate goal against New Hampshire last season.Â
NEW FACES
The Eagles welcome seven freshmen, including Ike Jakobsen, Regan Welsh and Lucy Parker who look to make an immediate impact.
Jakobsen arrives with international experience after serving as captain of the KZ WU18 team and competing with the Dutch WU16 National Team. Welsh joins BC as a Top 50 recruit after a standout career at Downingtown West and with the WC Eagles Hockey Club. Parker, a midfielder from Andover, Mass., helped Phillips Academy win the 2024 NEPSAC Class A Championship and served as the team's 2025 co-captain.
THE OPPONENTS
Providence
Friday's matchup marks the 40th meeting between Boston College and Providence. The Eagles last faced the Friars in 2024 in Providence and enter the contest riding a 14-game winning streak in the series dating back to 2009.
Providence finished the 2025 season with an 8-9 record, falling in the final game of the Big East Tournament. They will return Big East Midfielder of the Year Bo Martina for her final season. Martina led Providence with 22 points in 2025, recording nine goals and four assists.Â
UAlbany
Boston College will make the trip to UAlbany on Sunday for the seventh meeting between the Eagles and Great Danes.
The Eagles last faced UAlbany in 2024, earning a 3-1 victory at home. Boston College owns a winning record in the series, with its only loss coming in 2022 in a double-overtime contest.
UAlbany returns a pair of America East Preseason All-Conference selections in Jette Kurz and Pilar Lorenzini. Lorenzini led the Great Danes with 12 goals last season, while Kurz turned in a four-goal performance in UAlbany's 2025 America East quarterfinal matchup against Bryant.
Junior transfer Merle Vaandrager also returns to the conference after being named the America East Goalkeeper of the Year. The Great Danes enter 2026 with seven newcomers on their roster.
UP NEXT
The Eagles come back to Newton to host Maryland, Northwestern and Duke in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge Sept. 4-6. BC will play Maryland on Friday night at 6 p.m. before facing Northwestern Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. on ACC Network.
