KEY PLAYS
Bryant got to freshman right-handed starter Thomas Lane early, scoring six in the first and did not look back, adding runs in the second, fourth, sixth, eight and ninth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bryant jumped out to a 6-0 lead with Lane on the mound. With runners on the corners after a single, walk and wild pitch, a double scored the first run of the game. A bad bounce on a chopper added another run and with runners on the corners, a base hit to center plated the third run of the inning. A sac bunt moved the runners into scoring position and a single plated another run. Lane was lifted for freshman LHP Zach Stromberg, who allowed an RBI base hit and sac fly for two more before a fly ball ended the inning.
- The Eagles got one back in the bottom of the inning as Palomaki drew a four-pitch, lead-off walk and Sciortino singled to put two on. A double play moved Palomaki to third and Cronin plated him with a single through the left side.
- The Bulldogs added two with two outs in the second. After Stromberg got two quick grounders to start the inning, he loaded the bases on a base hit and two walks. Zach Wood knocked one just fair in left field to plate two. Freshman RHP Jack Nelson entered the game and got a grounder to short to end the inning.
- BC scored three in the second to cut the lead in half, 8-4. The Eagles loaded the bases on a double by junior Johnny Adams, a walk and hit by pitch. The Bulldogs went to the bullpen for RHP Ross Weiner and sophomore Anthony Maselli grounded one to third, allowing Adams to score. Maselli beat the throw to first to keep Eagles on the corners. Palomaki laid down a bunt to score another BC run and register an infield single. Weiner's throw to first was wide, allowing runners to move to second and third. Sciortino brought in BC's third run with a sacrifice fly to center.
- Bryant jumped back out to a 12-4 lead in the fourth and forced the Eagles to go through more arms. With one down, Matt Albanese doubled down the left-field line and Buck McCarthy plated him in with a base hit. After two more singles, freshman RHP Sean Hughes came in to replace Nelson. He walked two straight batters to bring in two runs and classmate RHP John Witkowski came on in relief. A sac fly to left scored the 12th run of the game but put two outs on the board. With runners on first and second, Nick Angelini singled to center and junior centerfielder Michael Strem came up firing. He gunned down the runner at third to end the inning.
- The Bulldogs added three runs in the sixth with freshman LHP Dan Metzdorf on the mound. After the Eagles loaded the bases with no outs and could not score against RHP Oliver Powers, Bryant took advantage of BC errors. An infield single and an error put runners on first and second but Metzdorf came back to get the first out looking. Cole Fabio grounded one to short and Adams flipped to second for one out. The throw to first was wide, allowing a run to come in and Fabio to advantage to second. After a hit by pitch, Rinn doubled off the wall in center to plate both runners. Metzdorf ended the inning with another strikeout.
- Angelini launched a two-out solo shot over the left-field fence off sophomore LHP Carmen Giampetruzzi to make it a 16-4 game.
- The Bulldogs added two more in the ninth. A lead-off walk and double down the left-field line put two on before Giampetruzzi got a strikeout looking for the first out. Wood doubled to left to clear the bases and bring the Bryant total to 18.
- The Eagles got two runs in their final at bat to make it 18-6 final. With LHP Justin Snyder on the mound, Alu led off with a double and freshman Gian Martellini singled. With one out, Snyder issued three straight walks to bring in two runs. A 643 double play ended the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- The 18 runs are the most allowed by the Eagles since a 19-4 loss to Miami on April 2, 2011.
- The 20 hits allowed were the most since giving up 21 to then-No. 2 LSU on Feb. 21, 2015 in a 16-2 loss in Baton Rouge, La.
- The 12-run deficit was the largest loss for the Eagles since a 13-0 shutout at Louisville, then ranked 13th, on March 14, 2015.
