AS A JUNIOR (2018-2019): Finished junior year with season-best swims in the 400 IM (placing third) and 100/200 yard butterfly (placing seventh in both) at the Boston Winter Open... Finished 19th in the 200 yard butterfly and 21st in the 400 IM at the Terrier Invitational... Placed second in the 200 butterfly vs. Maine/Northeastern... split a 21 on a 200 yard Freestyle Relay... Flynn Recreation Complex Triathlon Team Champion.
AS A SOPHOMORE (20117-2018): Set personal bests in both the 200 yd. freestyle (1:55.58) and 400 yd. individual medley (4:07.55), at the Boston Winter Open, also marking the 10th fastest time in program history in the 200 yd. individual medley ... at the Terrier Invitational, placed 12th in the 400 yd. individual medley (4:08.07), 22nd in the 200 yd. butterfly (1:56.61), and 30th in the 200 yd. individual medley (1:56.43)…placed fifth in the 200 yd. butterfly (1:58.71) vs. Boston University ... placed seventh in both the 200 yd. freestyle (2:00.48) and 200 yd. individual medley (2:02.50) vs. MIT ... placed sixth in the 200 yd. butterfly (2:01.87) vs. Marist ... had a season-best in the 100 yd. butterfly (53.96) and placed fifth in the 200 yd. butterfly (1:58.14) vs. Williams ... placed third in the 400 yd. individual medley vs. Keene State (4:22.14) ... placed third in the 200 yd. butterfly vs. Loyola (MD) (2:00.93) ... placed fourth in the 200 yd. butterfly (2:00.97) and fifth in the 400 yd. individual medley (4:23.65) at the New England Catholic Invite.
AS A FRESHMAN (2016-2017): Finished freshman year with lifetime best swims at the Husky Invitational in the 400 yard Individual Medley (4:09.89) and 200 yard Butterfly (1:57.00), taking 2nd place and 4th place respectively... swam in the B Final of the 400 yard Individual Medley at the Terrier Invitational finishing 15th place (4:11.13)...earned two 4th place finishes in the 200 yard Butterfly and 400 yard Individual Medley at the New England Catholic Invitational...finished with a 3rd place swim in the 200 IM at the dual meet against Harvard.
BEFORE BC: Attended West Ottawa High School...lettered all four years...team captain for 2015-2016 season...Panther Award Recipient in 2016...All Conference in 2015 and 2016...2016 All-American, All-State, All-Conference, and All-Area..Received Scholar Athlete Award all four years...2016 Academic All-American.
PERSONAL: Matthew is from Holland, MI...he is the son of Ed and Lynn DeNave...has one sister, Emma (17) who runs track, cross country, and swims as well..swims for club team Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics under Jim Whitehead.
