Defensive Led Performance Leads to Senior Day Win Over No. 4 Syracuse

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A dominant defensive performance from Boston College lacrosse powered the Eagles to a 7-4 victory over No. 4 Syracuse on Thursday afternoon in the regular-season finale on Senior Day.
With the win, BC snapped Syracuse's 12-game win streak, improving to 9-6 overall and 6-4 in the ACC, while the Orange fell to 12-4 and 7-3 in conference play.
The Eagles' defense held Syracuse to a season-low four goals while forcing 10 of the Orange's 16 turnovers. A trio of Eagles - Shea Baker, Julia Hodell, and Avery Hudson - paced the effort with two caused turnovers apiece, while Hodell added three ground balls.
Shea Dolce delivered a stellar performance in the cage, stopping eight shots for a .667 save percentage, including seven saves in the second half.
Offensively, Giulia Colarusso led the way with three goals, adding two ground balls and a team-best four draw controls. The sophomore also helped BC control the draw, contributing to an 8-4 advantage. Kylee Colbert added two goals, while her sister Casey Colbert led the team with a pair of assists.
It was a defensive battle throughout, with BC maintaining a wire-to-wire lead that never exceeded two goals until Colarusso's third score gave the Eagles a 7-4 cushion. The BC defense held Syracuse scoreless for the final 14:47 to secure a second top-five win at home.
Marissa White opened the scoring before Colarusso found the back of the net to give BC a 2-0 lead with 5:49 remaining in the first quarter. The Eagles carried a 3-1 advantage into the second after Kylee Colbert answered a Syracuse goal with two minutes left in the frame.
Both teams scored once in the second and third quarters, giving BC a 5-3 lead heading into the fourth after C. Colbert connected with her sister for her second goal of the game.
After the visitors started the final period with a goal that brought the lead back to one, the Eagles' defense, coupled with two goals from Colarusso, helped the Eagles secure a ninth straight win in the series.
Following the game, BC honored its nine seniors: Brooke McLoy, Ava Besson, Shea Baker, Abbey Herod, Michaela O'Connor, Peyton Oliver, Chrystina Bennett, Casey Colbert, and Shea Dolce.
The Eagles will now await their opponent and seeding for the 2026 ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship, set to take place in Charlotte, N.C. from April 22–26.
