Brighton, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (10-23, 2-7 ACC) was defeated by No. 12 Virginia Tech (31-4, 7-2 ACC) in the final game of their weekend series at Harrington Athletic Village on Sunday afternoon.

Virginia Tech jumped on Boston College in the first inning with a two-run homer. In the bottom of the second, the Hokies would tally 12 runs to take the 14-0 lead.

A hit by Emma Knight opened the scoring in the third for the Eagles, tacking on two runs from Katelyn Deguire and Sammy Horn. BC maintained momentum with a single by Abby Ptak to drive Knight back home bringing the score to 15-3 in the final half.

The Hokies would add two more runs in the fourth inning. The Eagles held VT scoreless in the top of the fifth as Shannon MacLeod recorded her fifth strikeout of the game. BC capped the inning with no runs, resulting in a final score of 17-3.

GAME NOTES

Shannon MacLeod recorded five strikeouts of the day, a new career high.
With a hit in the third inning, Adriana Martinez extended her hitting streak to seven games.
Adriana Martinez led the team with a .500 batting average this weekend. She also recorded four hits and three RBI.
Emma Knight recorded two RBI in the final game.

Boston College travels to Providence, RI. where they will face The Friars on Tuesday evening at 4 p.m. before they head to Georgia Tech.
