BC Falls to No. 12 Virginia Tech in Home Opening Doubleheader

Brighton, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (10-22, 2-6 ACC) battled against No. 12 Virginia Tech (30-4, 6-2 ACC) in their home opener at Harrington Athletics VIllage on Friday evening. The team split the doubleheader with 11-0 and 14-4 losses.

Game 1 - BC 0 | VT 11

Boston College put together solid at-bats in the first game across each inning, with hits from Adriana Martinez and Tavye Borders in the second. Emma Knight made first base on an error, creating pressure on the Hokies' defense despite leaving runners stranded.

The Hokie got on the board first in the second inning adding four runs and taking the early lead. VT broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs on seven hits. Boston College continued to battle, drawing walks from Knight and Ptak. But were unable to overcome the deficit as Virginia Tech took the game 11-0 in the fifth inning.

Game 2 BC 4 | VT 14

In the second game of the night for the Eagles, Martinez singled down left field with an RBI to score Kae DePerio and Horn snuck home on a wild pitch to cut the lead 3-2 after the first. Martinez's homer in the third propelled Ptak from second to home for two RBI.

The Hokies added six runs across the fifth and sixth innings to take a 14-4 lead that they would hold onto and take both games on the day.

GAME NOTES

Adriana Martinez hit her fourth home run of the season and led the team with a .500 batting average and 1.167 slugging over the two games along with three hits and three RBI.
Abby Ptak and Tavye Borders each hit .400 with two hits.
