Eagles Ready for Softball Home Opener
March 26, 2026 | Softball
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (10-20, 2-4 ACC) returns to Harrington Athletics Village for their home opener this week as they host No. 12 Virginia Tech (28-4, 4-2 ACC) for an ACC series. With potential weather in the area, Friday will become a double header with first pitch set for 3 p.m. to kick off the series. Game three is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday weather permitting.Â
Home at Last!
After opening the season with 30 consecutive games on the road, the Eagles return for their home opener against the No. 12 Virginia Tech Hokies. The matchup marks the second consecutive ranked opponent to visit Chestnut Hill as BC hosted Stanford last season in their season finale. It also represents the program's latest home opener since 2017, when the Eagles first played at home on March 30.
Last Time Out
Boston College went 1–2 on the road against Pitt, highlighted by a powerful offensive showing that saw the Eagles hit seven home runs across the three-game series, going deep in every game. Adriana Martinez delivered one of the weekend's biggest moments with the team's third grand slam of the season in game two. Three Eagles led the charge at the plate, with Abby Ptak batting .556, Janis Espinoza hitting .455, and Martinez finishing at .429. In the circle, Bailey Kendziorski tossed a complete game for her second of the season and earned her first win, allowing just one earned run while striking out four.
Good Knight
Freshman Emma Knight is off to an impressive start to her career, leading the team with 28 RBI while adding 29 hits. Following the UNC series, Knight etched her name into the record books as just the sixth Eagle to hit two home runs in a single game, and she tied Hall of Famer Tatiana Cortez's mark with seven RBI in a game, a feat last accomplished in 2017. The freshman has also totaled eight home runs on the season.
A Look at the Leaderboard
Knight leads the team with 28 RBI, highlighted by eight multi-RBI performances so far this season. Abby Ptak is pacing the Eagles in batting average (.423), slugging percentage (.660), and total hits (41), with her hit total ranking among the top 10 in the ACC. She also leads the team with nine doubles, another mark that places her in the conference's top 10.Â
Scouting Virginia Tech
The Eagles enter the weekend with an 8–44 all-time record against Virginia Tech, with their last win in the series coming in 2015. The Hokies have steadily climbed the national rankings, opening the season at No. 21 and rising to No. 12 this week. In the circle, Bree Carrico and Emma Mazzarone both earned ACC honors following dominant performances. Carrico allowed just one hit over 11.0 innings while striking out 13 and was also named D1 Softball National Freshman of the Week. Mazzarone matched her with 11.0 innings pitched, giving up only four hits and recording 17 strikeouts, including a complete-game, two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in her first appearance of the weekend. Offensively, the Hokies are led by two hitters batting over .400 in Jordan Lynch (.453) and Addison Foster (.422).
