Eagles Record 10 Hits in Pitt Series Finale Loss

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Boston College softball team (10-20, 2-4 ACC) dropped the final game of the ACC weekend against the University of Pittsburgh (17-12, 4-5 ACC) on Sunday afternoon in a 12-9 offensive battle.

There were a total of 23 hits from both teams. Pitt started in the first inning to put a run on the board but BC didn't wait to jump into the action.

The top of the second brought three runs for the Eagles with a single from Katelyn Deguire to start off the rally. With runners on first and second, Tavye Borders popped one out to center field for an RBI double. Kae DePerio made her way on base to help score another run and then stole second allowing Borders to sneak home. Pitt would add three runs of their own in the bottom of the second to take back the lead.

Abby Ptak came up to bat at the top of the third and sent a ball over the scoreboard to tie up the game at 4-4. Borders sent another ball to the outfield for a sac fly that scored Janis Espinoza for the Eagles fifth run.

Three more runs were scored in the fourth off of four hits from Sammy Horn, Ptak, Espinoza and Deguire. Pitt added four runs at the bottom of the inning for a 9-8 lead.

Emma Knight, Ptak and Adrina Martinez each singled in the sixth to combine for a run before Pitt ultimately took the lead in the bottom of the inning off of three more runs for the 12-9 score.

GAME NOTES

The Eagles recorded 10+ hits for the ninth time this season

BC had a home run in all three games against Pitt

Abby Ptak led the team going 3-for-3 on the day, including her fourth home run of the season

The Eagles return to Harrington Athletics Village for their home opener on March 27. BC will host No. 14 Virginia Tech for three games that will be broadcast on ACCNX.
