Eagles Split Opening Day at Leadoff Classic

Clearwater, Fla. - The Boston College softball team opened their season at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater Fla. The team split opening day with a 8-4 victory over Eastern Kentucky and a 7-0 loss to Penn State on Friday.

Head Coach Beth Krysiak earned her first win in Maroon and Gold in the opening game against EKU.

Game 1 - BC 8 | EKU 4

The Eagles got on the board first with a RBI double from Emma Knight in her first at bat as an Eagle to take an early 1-0 lead.

Kelly Colleran was in charge in the circle holding the Colonel to zero runs throughout the first six innings with six strikeouts.

Meghan Schouten got the bats rolling for BC in the fourth inning with a double of her own to score Kiley Buckley. Carly Bunnell, Janis Espinoza and Sammy Horn added RBI to extend the lead 5-0 after the fifth.

Abby Ptak and Schouten recorded RBI singles in the sixth and seventh inning to cap off BC's scoring.

EKU added four runs in the final inning but it was not enough as the Eagles earned their first win of the season, 8-4.

Game 2 - BC 0 | PSU 7

Penn State started the first inning with a two run homer to take an early lead over the Eagles. Horn responded with a bunt down the third base line for a single in the same inning.

Ptak and Schouten would add two more hits in the later innings but BC ultimately fell to the Nitty Lions 7-0 to close opening day.
