Late Rally Falls Short as Eagles Fall to FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Boston College Baseball (5-4) fell to FGCU (9-2) in the middle game of their three-game series on Saturday night, 11-5.
Tyler Mudd started for the Eagles and went an inning before Luke D'Ancona, John Kwiatkowski, Jacob Burnham, and John D Mitchell all made appearances out of the bullpen.
Boston College made it 1-0 within the first four pitches as Julio Solier led off with a double before Nick Wang singled up the middle to score him.
FGCU responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning with three runs on four hits, allowing them to make it 3-1.
D'Ancona replaced Mudd after the first and kept FGCU at bay for two innings as it remained 3-1 until the bottom of the fourth. In this inning, FGCU put up seven runs on six hits, including three runs with two outs.
The score remained the same until the top of the eighth as Jacob Burnham pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless ball in relief. Solier took the first pitch of the inning and doubled it to left center before Wang hit a 378-foot home run to left center field, his third of the season, to make it 10-3 in favor of FGCU.
FGCU tacked on an additional run in the bottom of the eighth when a single to center brought in a run.
The Eagles tacked on two more in the top of the ninth when Danny Surowiec recorded his first career hit when he roped a double into center field. Sean Martinez made it runners on first and second for Solier when a pitch hit him. Solier then recorded his fourth hit of the game and third double with a hit to center field to score both runners.
