Eagles Travel to FGCU for Weekend Series

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College baseball travels to Fort Myers this weekend, where it will take on the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles for a three-game series. The first game of the series is at 6:30 p.m. on Friday; the second game is at 5:00 p.m.; and the finale is at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Record vs the Eagles
This will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2012. BC holds a 3-2 series advantage over FGCU, with FGCU winning the most recent contest 8-5.
Scouting the Weekend
FGCU enters the weekend at 8-1 after splitting its midweek matchup with the Indiana State Sycamores. The Eagles had won eight straight, including the Tuesday contest by run rule, before falling to Indiana State on Wednesday. FGCU's top hitter this season is Jon Embury, who is hitting .439 with 17 RBIs and five home runs.
On Friday, A.J. Colarusso will take on Evan Dempsey of FGCU. Last Friday, Colarusso went five innings against Cornell with seven strikeouts to earn his first win of the season as Boston College won 9-1. Dempsey comes into Friday with a 1-0 record, an ERA of 0.00, and 19 strikeouts in 13 innings. In his last start, he went seven innings with seven strikeouts against Stonehill.
On Saturday, the Eagles will face FGCU's Chris Diaz. Diaz comes into Saturday without a decision, an ERA of 7.56, and 14 strikeouts in 8.1 innings. In his last start, he pitched six innings with nine strikeouts against Stonehill.
On Sunday, Tyler Mudd will face Hunter Possehl. Last Sunday, Mudd went six innings, matching a career high, while striking out five in the Eagles' 7-6 win against Cornell. Possehl comes Sunday with a 1-0 record, an ERA of 2.79, and 17 strikeouts in 9.2 innings. In his last start, he went five innings with seven strikeouts against Stonehill.
Last Time Out
Boston College traveled to Spartanburg, SC, last weekend to compete in the Hub City Invitational, where they played Cornell and Northwestern twice. The Eagles finished the weekend 2-2, sweeping the Big Red and dropping both to the Wildcats. Offensively, Boston College was led by Julio Solier, who went 10-17 with two XBHs and two RBIs. Gunnar Johnson also found success at the plate, going 3-9, including a three-run homer in the Sunday game against Cornell. A.J. Colarusso and Tyler Mudd led the Eagles' staff, combining for 11 innings of work with 12 strikeouts and only three hits allowed. Mudd and Solier were also recognized by D1 Baseball for their performances this weekend.

After a weekend series with Florida Gulf Coast, the Eagles will travel to Florida International for Boston College's first midweek series of the season. The Eagles' spring break trip will wrap up with the beginning of ACC play at Miami from March 6-8.
