SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Boston College Baseball (3-2) fell to Northwestern (4-2) on the second night of the Hub City Invitational, 5-4.

Sean Hard got his second start of the season and went 1.2 innings before handing it over to John Kwiatkowski, Kyle Kipp, and Gavin Soares. The four combined to strikeout 14, including a career-high seven from Kipp.

The Eagles got to scoring right away as Julio Solier opened the game with a lead off triple. Nick Wang then hit his second home run of the season, which made it 2-0 Boston College.

The Wildcats responded in the bottom of the second as they recorded two extra base hits to tie the game at two.

The Eagles made it 3-2 in the top of the third when Owen DeShazo hit a sac fly to center, which scored Jack Toomey.

Boston College went quietly in the fifth, but began the top of the sixth with runners on first and second after walks by Ty Mainolfi and Wang. After Toomey grounded into a double play, Kyle Wolff launched a double into right field to score Wang and make it 4-2.

In the bottom half of the inning, Northwestern took its first lead of the game with three runs. The Wildcats got a home run and a two-run triple, making it 5-4.

The Eagles recorded two base runners the rest of the game as Solier and Gunnar Johnson reached base, but could not manage to get the tying run across.

Up Next: The Eagles will return to action tomorrow in Spartanburg, SC when they take on Cornell at 10:00 a.m and then Northwestern at 2:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Park.
