Birdball Prepares For Hub City Invitational

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College baseball travels to South Carolina this weekend, where they will compete in the Hub City Invitational in Spartanburg, SC.
The Eagles will face Cornell and Northwestern, playing each twice. Boston College will play Cornell first at 4:00 p.m. on Friday before taking on Northwestern at the same time on Saturday.
On Sunday, the Eagles will play a doubleheader, taking on Cornell at 10:00 a.m. before playing Northwestern at 2:00 p.m.
Record vs the Field
This will be the first meeting in program history between the Big Red and Boston College, but the fifth overall between the Eagles and the Wildcats. Northwestern holds a 3-1 series lead over Boston College, with all four meetings coming on neutral sites in Florida. The last time the two teams met in 2016, Boston College won 6-3.
Scouting the Weekend
On Friday, A.J. Colarusso will take on the Big Red's Huxley Holcombe. In his first start of the season, Colarusso went four innings while striking out five in the Eagles' 6-4 win over Seton Hall. This will be Cornell's first game of the season after going 12-22 in 2025. Holcombe returns for his junior season after going 3-2 in 2025. The Big Red also returns three of its top hitters, including Caden Wildman, who hit .282 in 2025.
On Saturday, Sean Hard will take on the Wildcats Ryan Weaver. Hard made his return from injury last Saturday and went two innings while striking out one and allowing one hit. Northwestern went 1-2 in their opening weekend season series against Rice. In his season debut, Weaver went seven innings while striking out three and not allowing a run. The Wildcats' top hitter last weekend was Jackson Freeman, who went 8-12 with three home runs and five RBI.
On Sunday, the Eagles will face Cornell's Ethan Hamill, who missed 2025 due to injury, but went 3-3 over 58.1 innings with 28 strikeouts in 2024. In the second game, Boston College will face Northwestern's Matt Kouser, who has made two appearances this season for four innings while striking out two and allowing only one earned run.
D1 Baseball Standouts of the Weekend
The Eagles put together a strong opening weekend in Puerto Rico with wins over Seton Hall and Washington, with Boston College running the Huskies, 10-0. Several Eagles put together standout performances, including Julio Solier, Carter Hendrickson, Tyler Mudd, Gavin Soares, and Chase Hartsell.
Hendrickson and Solier were the top hitters as they hit .571 and .455, respectively. Solier, who did not see much action as a freshman, went 5-11 over the weekend and capped off a dominant weekend with a 2-4 outing in the leadoff spot against Washington, highlighted by a base-clearing triple that brought in two runs.
On the mound, Mudd and Hartsell combined to strike out six Huskies during the shutout of Washington on Sunday. Soares shone in his relief appearance on Friday as he closed out the Pirates with a 2.2-inning appearance while striking out five.
D1 Baseball Positional Rankings
D1 Baseball announced its preseason positional rankings, with the Eagles landing five. Ty Mainolfi was ranked 36th among the Top 50 third basemen, which was seventh best in the ACC. Carter Hendrickson was ranked 72nd among the Top 150 Outfielders in the country. A.J. Colarusso and Brady Miller were ranked 89th and 144th among the Top 200 Starting Pitchers. Gavin Soares was ranked 16th among the Top 100 Relief Pitchers, which was third best in the ACC.
Spartanburg Homecoming
When Boston College travels to Spartanburg, SC, this weekend, it will be a homecoming for Head Coach Todd Interdonato and assistant Holden Wilder, as well as Gunnar Johnson. Interdonato served as the head coach of Wofford College from 2008 to 2023. Wilder and Johnson both played for Interdonato at Wofford from 2020 to 2024 before joining the Eagles.
