James Hagens scored his second hat trick of the season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – James Hagens scored his second hat trick of the season as the No. 12/13 Boston College men's hockey team started the weekend with a 5-2 victory over No. 10/11 UConn on Friday night at Kelley Rink. Landan Resendes and Teddy Stiga also both scored for the Eagles. Andre Gasseau and Dean Letourneau each posted three assists, while Ryan Conmy had two assists. Louka Cloutier made 21 saves to earn the win.
Boston College improves to 18-10-1 overall and 12-7-0 in Hockey East, while UConn drops to 17-8-4 overall and 11-6-2 in league play.
J. Hagens opened the scoring for the Eagles late in the first period with a power play goal. After a play along the boards, Letourneau picked up the puck and found J. Hagens by the right faceoff circle. J. Hagens fired a shot towards goal that looked to be saved initially by the goaltender, but took a fortunate bounce that ended up in the back of the goal.
Just minutes later, J. Hagens scored his second of the period to double the Boston College lead. Gasseau won the faceoff in the offensive zone and immediately found Aram Minnetian. Minnetian passed the puck to J. Hagens for the one-timer from the high slot that went into the top corner of the goal.
UConn came flying out of the gates to begin the second period, scoring twice inside the first 3:03 of the frame to tie the game at 2-2.
Boston College regained its lead late in the middle frame when J. Hagens scored his second power play goal of the night. Conmy split the UConn defense to find J. Hagens on the right side for the one-timer into the net to complete the hat trick.
Resendes restored the lead midway through the final period after Gasseau found the freshman at the net front for a top shelf one-timer. Stiga iced the game in the final few minutes with an empty-net goal.
