DENVER, Colo. – The No. 18/17 Boston College men's hockey team dropped the opening game of the weekend series against No. 4 Denver, 5-2, on Friday evening at Magness Arena. The Eagles overturned a two-goal deficit, but the Pioneers claimed the victory after tallying three goals in the third.
BC falls to 1-3-0 on the season while Denver improves to 3-2-0.
Dean Letourneau and Will Vote each scored a goal for the Eagles, while four different skaters recorded an assist. Louka Cloutier made 27 saves in goal.
After going down 2-0, the Eagles scored twice in less than a 45-second span midway through the middle frame to tie the game at 2-2.
A shot from Matias Vanhanen was saved and pushed wide, but Oscar Hemming got to it first and found Letourneau wide open at the net front to tuck into the back of the net to get the Eagles on the board.
BC netted the equalizer less than 45 seconds later as Vote tipped and redirected a shot from the blue line by Carson Woodall that found its way past the Denver goaltender and into the back of the net.
The Pioneers scored an early power play in the third period to regain their lead before making it a two-goal game seven minutes later.
The Eagles pulled Cloutier in the final few minutes to try and get one back with an extra attacker on the ice, but Denver was able to take advantage of a turnover and tally an empty net goal to close out the game.
