First Half Strike Leads Eagles to Season-Opening Victory
August 21, 2025 | Men's Soccer
NEWTON, Mass. – A first half goal from Johannes Hanken Tjostheim proved to be the difference as the Boston College men's soccer team defeated Binghamton, 1-0, in the season opener on Thursday night at the Newton Soccer Complex.
Ask Ekeland picks up his first point of the campaign with the assist on the goal. Andrej Borak, making his collegiate debut, recorded one save to earn his first clean sheet.
Hanken Tjostheim broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a curling left-footed strike into the top left corner. Ekeland fed the ball to Hanken Tjostheim at the top of the box, before turning and firing his shot into the net.
As the time ran down with Binghamton in search of an equalizer, Borak stepped up in the 86th minute with a quick reaction diving save from just a few yards away to keep the Eagles in the lead and the Bearcats off the board.
Michael Asare had nearly opened the scoring just a few minutes into the match, but his attempt from close range was stopped by Binghamton goalkeeper Connor Cresswell.
Sander Martinsen-Wold almost doubled the lead midway through the second half with a header from close range off a cross from Aidan Farwell, but his effort went just over the crossbar.
The Eagles controlled most of the play, holding the edge in shots (11-4) and corner kicks (7-5).
Boston College is back in action on Monday at 5 p.m. against Siena on the Newton Soccer Field. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
