Lacrosse Suffers Setback at No. 2 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Boston College lacrosse fell to No. 2 North Carolina in a narrow 12-11 setback on Saturday afternoon at Dorrance Field.Â
BC suffers its loss of the season, dropping to 13-1 and 6-1 in the ACC, while UNC moves to 12-0 and 7-0 in the league.Â
It was a 9-9 tie going into the final period until Rachel Clark scored her second goal to give the Eagles a 10-9 lead with just under 10 remaining.Â
North Carolina responded with three straight to claim a 12-10 lead late in the contest before Emma LoPinto found Clark to slice the deficit to one.Â
BC had a chance to tie up the contest with 18 seconds remaining, but a turnover sealed the win for the Tar Heels.Â
The Eagles got off to a 4-0 start in the opening period with four different players scoring after Maria Themelis capped off the run with a score. UNC Â closed the gap in half before a Mia Mascone goal gave the Eagles a 5-2 lead at the end of the first.Â
UNC tied up the contest with a 3-0 run midway through the second, setting up a back-and-forth affair that saw six ties and six lead changes over the final 39 minutes of the game.Â
Clark netted a hat trick, while Mascone registered three goals as well. Molly Driscoll carded a team-high two assists with one goal for three points.Â
Abbey Herod led the team with six draw controls, while Shea Baker totaled two caused turnovers and five DCs. Morgan Smith tallied two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Lydia Colasante netted five DCs and two ground balls.Â
Shea Dolce registered eight saves in the contest, earning 400 career saves and becoming just the second player in school history to reach the feat.Â
BC returns to action next Saturday at 12 p.m. against Virginia for Senior Day.Â
