Eagles Drop Doubleheader to No. 18 Louisville
April 04, 2025 | Baseball
Kyle Wolff and Patrick Roche each homered in game two on Friday night
Game One
The hosts jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. The lead extended to 7-0 after a three-run homer in the second, Louisville's second of the game. Trailing 10-0 after two, the Eagles responded with a three-spot in the third to cut the deficit to 10-3. With the bases loaded, Josiah Ragsdale opened it up with a sacrifice fly. Jack Toomey later followed with a bases-loaded walk, and a wild pitch brought home Patrick Roche from third.
The Cardinals added one in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double to make it 11-3. The Eagles rallied for a four-spot in the fifth, punctuated by a two-out, bases-loaded knock from Sam McNulty to bring two across, making it an 11-7 game. Louisville got one back in the sixth to go up 12-7. In the top of the seventh, the Eagles responded with one of their own, courtesy of a Patrick Roche bases-loaded walk. The sides traded a scoreless eighth and Louisville held the lead for a 12-8 win in game one.
Karl Meyer and Matthew Spada combined for 4.1 innings of one-run relief in the early game, including two shutout innings from Spada down the stretch. Brady Miller took the loss for the Eagles (1-1).
Game Two
The Cardinals brought eight across in the bottom of the first, and another in the second, but a pair of Eagles' home runs cut into the early deficit. Kyle Wolff drove his fifth homer of the year to right field in the second, and the Eagles' RBI leader in Patrick Roche added to his lead with a three-run, opposite-field bomb in the third, making it a 9-4 game. A Louisville sacrifice fly and RBI single pushed the lead to 11-4 after three full. The hosts scored a pair in the fourth and fifth, extending their advantage to 15-4 after five full. After Louisville added on two in the sixth, Esteban Garcia got one back on an RBI groundout, but Louisville closed it out in seven innings, winning 17-5. Kyle Kipp took the loss for BC (3-2).
The Eagles and Cardinals will play in the series finale on either Saturday or Sunday, with first pitch dependent on the weather.
