Game two of weekend series scheduled for Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (21-21, 9-13 ACC) fell 2-1 to Miami (25-18, 10-9 ACC) in game one of the weekend series on Friday afternoon at Harrington Athletics Village.
The sides traded scoreless frames through the first three innings, with BC starter A.J. Colarusso setting down the first eleven batters of the game with three strikeouts before allowing his first baserunner with a two-out walk in the fourth. The next batter grounded out to second, preserving the scoreless tie after four full.
Miami worked the bases loaded in the fifth and opened the scoring on a fielder's choice to the shortstop, taking a 1-0 lead midway through five. The Eagles responded in their half, with Vince Cimini drawing a leadoff walk and later coming around to score on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly from Esteban Garcia, tying it at 1-1 after five full.
Colarusso came back out for the sixth for his third trip through the heart of Miami's order, and retired three straight batters, finishing off a scoreless frame with his fifth strikeout. The lefty worked through the seventh, but the visitors regained a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning on a two-out double to the left-center gap.
John Kwiatkowski relieved Colarusso in the ninth and hung a zero, but the Hurricanes kept the Eagles off the board in the bottom of the frame to hang on for a 2-1 win in the series opener.
Game two of the weekend series is scheduled for Saturday at noon at Harrington Athletics Village.
