BERKELEY, Calif. – Boston College softball dropped game two of their ACC-opening series against Cal by a score of 12-4 in a five-inning affair on Saturday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field.
The home team jumped out to an early lead behind two two-run home runs by Acacia Anders and Elon Butler in the bottom of the first. The Eagles answered in the top of the second thanks to a solo shot from Jordan Stephens, her third of the season.
In the third inning, Meghan Schouten and Kali Case each got on base with infield singles, which led to Gator Robinson driving in Schouten with a double up the middle, followed by Hannah Slike driving in Case with an RBI to put BC within one. Robinson crossed the plate on a fielding error, evening the score at four a piece.
The Eagles defense was firing on all cylinders in the bottom of the third as Emma Jackson and Janis Espinoza made a heads up play to catch a runner at third base, followed by a 4-6-3 double play to send things to the top of the fourth.
The Eagles weren't able to cross home in the fourth, while the Golden Bears added seven runs of their own to make it 11-4. BC had runners on in the top of the fifth, but did not score, and Cal made it 12-4 in the bottom of the inning to win the game.
